Membership

Eligibility

The branch is open to direct employees, contract, freelance, agency, or casual workers who work or have worked as Yoga Teachers.


In the case of venue/studio owners or managers who are also teachers, they can only join in the capacity as yoga teacher and will not be represented by the union in the capacity as manager/owner.

  1. The branch chair has discretion to decide when it is inappropriate when a member can sit in a meeting or discussion e.g. when teachers are discussing unionising their workplace in the presence of their manager 

  2. The union will only represent members in the specific parts of employment where they are a teacher.

  3. No studio manager/owner is able to become an elected official. If any elected official becomes a manager/owner they must inform the committee immediately and step down from their position.

Fees

Our membership fees are collectively and democratically agreed upon `by our branch members

Members can choose their monthly fees:

£8.50/month

We feel this fee enables our union to be accessible to all especially at these challenging times of the pandemic

Standard
£12.50/month

This fee allows us to resource and sustain the branch effectively especially as we grow in numbers

Solidarity
£16/month

Thank you for paying it forward. This fee enables us to provide the accessible rate of the community fee to more people

 

 Members' code of conduct

IWGB Members must act with respect towards other members, staff, volunteers and reps at all times. This includes in person, over the phone, text, whatsapp and social media. The IWGB expects the highest standards of behaviour from employers across the country, and should lead by example. Members are therefore must not engage in abuse of any kind towards fellow members, reps, volunteers and staff. When using the legal department, members will need to abide by the Legal Department Conduct Policy as well. Members may be subject to disciplinary action by the Union, if it is found that they are in contravention of this policy.
